Melody, Trisomy 18, just turned 12 Years Old!

When Melody was born she was sent home on hospice with no expectation she would live. Her main vulnerability was her extreme sleep apnea. With no support such as a c-pap, her every breath was a struggle and she could have died every time she fell asleep.

On Melody’s previous post, my friend Joan commented, “I will never forget the day that you called me and asked me to help you organize Melody’s funeral because that’s what the doctors told you to do – prepare for her passing. I was so honored that you asked me, and I said yes without hesitation, but my heart ached at the thought of it. Through tears we discussed the details, but God had other plans for sweet Melody!”

That sums up why we initially celebrated Melody’s birthday in weeks instead of years.

When Melody surprised all of us by turning 1 years old, 300 people showed up for her birthday party.

She is one loved little girl!

When Melody turned 2 years old, Sandra Coulson, a speech therapist, changed Melody’s life. In God’s mercy, Melody was healed of apnea through Sandra’s system almost immediately!

When she was 3 years old the book Miracles We Have Seen was published. In that book Melody’s story is shared by an amazing physician, Dr. Dan Hyman.

Melody turned 4 years old and grew stronger…

became more charming…

and continued to capture this mama’s heart.

When the treasured little girl turned 5 years old, 250 people showed up for her party. For her birthday she received a pink Porsche which she happily drove for many years.

When Melody was 6 years old, she traveled the country. She got to meet her trisomy 18 friend Lilliana…

…and take a fun trip to the beach.

When Melody was 7 years old, we went through the Doman training. This significantly impacted how we work with Melody physically and intellectually.

At 8 years old Melody continued to enjoy her learning time with the Doman method!

When Melody was 9 years old, she moved to a new state.

It was a year for changes as she grew out of her Porsche. It was now time for a new set of wheels – her pink Mercedes.

At 10 years old Melody aspirated and took her first Flight for Life helicopter ride. The doctors had end of life discussions with us, but in the Lord’s mercy a miracle ensued, and she recovered fully!

Melody became even more connected with music at age 11 and enjoys worshipping the Lord in song any chance she gets.

At 12 years old, Melody is stronger and healthier than she has ever been. She takes no medications, has no apnea, and has no health issue except scoliosis. She has become more connected and has become more communicative than she has ever been in her life. Best of all, the number of people she continues to inspire is…countless! We are so grateful for every year God has given us with our precious, 12 year old Melody!

And forget not all His benefits”
